Further testing for signs of concussion
In 2010, the American Academy of Neurology called for any athlete suspected of having a concussion to be removed from play until the athlete is evaluated by a physician. In some circumstances, further testing may be recommended if there are any signs of concussion that suggest a more serious injury to your brain. Brain function may or may not correlate with the resolution of symptoms.
Participation in high-contact, high-risk sports such as football, hockey, boxing, and soccer can increase the likelihood of a concussion. A bump at the sight of injury is a symptom that is likely to occur directly after a concussion. If a concussion is suspected, the doctor will ask about how the head injury happened, when, and its symptoms.
